Boracays WOW Awards 2007, with a total price money of 100,000 Peso has entered its second stage after the deadline for the submission of entries for the Search for the Most Outstanding Business Establishment Waste Management System and Inter-School Competition ended early September. 17 tourist establishments and 10 schools in Boracay submitted their entries and are now officially part of the competition.

In cooperation with the Private Enterprise Accelerated Resources Linkages (PEARL2), the Boracay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) successfully launched the 2007 Boracay WOW Award last August 20, 2007. The main objective of this project is to continue what was started during the 2005 Boracay Ecological Education Campaign and MRF Project of BCCI-PEARL2 in addressing the ecological sustainability of the island amidst of fast growth and development in Boracay through proper solid waste management.

To date, the 2007 Boracay WOW Awards is in full implementation. Its most challenging phase has began with the start of the first surprise monitoring system being conducted by the island's garbage monitors. Succeeding surprise visits will also include observers from the different government agencies such as the DENR, BSTPO, Municipal Health Office and LGU Solid Waste Team and the media. For the 10 participating schools, the competition likewise has started with the Inter-School Competition covering three categories: Trophy Design Challenge, Poster Making Contest, and Essay Writing Competition.
